TL;DR

North Port's population rose from 75,009 in 2020 to 96,551 in 2025 Census estimates, yet AHCA lists just 5 ALFs (381 beds) and 1 nursing home there. Families usually compare Venice, Englewood and Port Charlotte.

How fast has North Port grown?

In the Census Bureau's Vintage 2025 estimates, North Port had 96,551 residents, up from 75,009 in the April 2020 base, about 29 percent in five years. That makes it the largest city in Sarasota County by population and one of the fastest-growing in Florida. Much of the growth has been families and working-age residents, but retirees have come too, drawn by lower home prices than Sarasota or Venice.

Senior care follows older growth slowly. Assisted living buildings take years to plan and finance, and the licensed supply in North Port still reflects the city it was a decade ago.

How does North Port compare with the rest of the area?

The table sets each city's 2025 population (incorporated cities only; the Census does not publish annual estimates for unincorporated communities like Lakewood Ranch) beside the assisted living and nursing homes AHCA lists at local addresses.

Venice, with about a third of North Port's population, has 20 licensed ALFs. North Port has 5.

Where do North Port families actually find care?

Most look in three directions: north to Venice, which has the area's densest cluster of senior care in south county and a Sarasota Memorial hospital campus; west to Englewood, with HCA Florida Englewood Hospital; and south into Charlotte County's Port Charlotte, which follows the same Florida rules but is outside our directory.

For a parent who has lived in North Port for years, the drive matters. Families visit more often when the drive is short, and visits are one of the best protections a resident has. The North Port page lists the closest licensed options by distance.

What options exist without moving?

Home care agencies serve North Port addresses from offices elsewhere in the county, so in-home help is often more available than assisted living beds. Adult day care, meal programs and caregiver respite come through the Area Agency on Aging for Southwest Florida, Sarasota County's Aging and Disability Resource Center, at 1-866-413-5337.

For people who qualify for nursing home level of care and Medicaid, Stratum PACE's service area includes Sarasota County, although AHCA's August 2026 report showed its current participants all in Manatee.

Is new senior housing coming to North Port?

New projects are proposed and built in growing cities, but AHCA's locator lists only facilities that are licensed today, so a building under construction does not appear until it opens. If someone tells you a new assisted living community is opening nearby, ask when it expects its AHCA license and whether it is taking deposits, and treat any promise of services as provisional until the license exists.

In the meantime, the realistic choices for a North Port parent who needs daily help are the few local facilities, the larger cluster in Venice, or help at home.

How do North Port families plan for the drive?

If the right facility is in Venice or Englewood, map the drive from the family members who will visit most, at the times they will visit. Ask about the facility's transportation to doctors, many of whom are in Venice, Port Charlotte or Sarasota. For a couple, think about how the healthier spouse will get there if driving becomes difficult.

Adult day care and in-home help can postpone a move for a year or more, which gives families time to choose rather than react.

What about nursing home care in North Port?

AHCA lists one nursing home with a North Port address, so most short-term rehab after a hospital stay happens in Venice, Englewood or Port Charlotte. Families should ask the hospital case manager early which homes have accepted the referral and how far each is from home, because a rehab stay of two or three weeks means many trips.
